NACCO dates back to 1913 with the incorporation of The Cleveland & Western Coal Company

  • Name changed to The North American Coal Corporation in 1925 (Operated exclusively in the coal industry for the next 60 years, through 1985)
  • Name changed to NACCO Industries, Inc. in 1986 with creation of new holding company
  • Entered the materials handling industry in 1985-1989 (Through acquisition of Hyster and Yale)
  • Entered the housewares industry in 1988-1990 (Through acquisitions of WearEver-ProctorSilex and Kitchen Collection, and subsequent merger with Hamilton Beach)
  • Exited the materials handling industry in September, 2012 (Through the spin-off of the lift truck businesses as an independent public company, Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc.)
  • Exited the housewares industry on September 29, 2017. (Through the spin-off of the housewares businesses as an independent public company, Hamilton Beach Brands Holding Company)
